Dr Maheboob Mahamud Basade is the Head, Department of Medical Oncology department at Saifee hospital, Mumbai.
After his MBBS, Dr Basade completed MD in 1992. After this, he served as Junior and Senior Resident in the Department of Medical and Paediatric Oncology as well as in Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. Dr Basade was then awarded with International Scientist’s Visiting Fellowship in Haematology / Oncology at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, USA followed by Fellowship at The New York Hospital – Cornell Medical Centre, New York, USA. After this, he was a visiting Fellow at The Royal Marsden NHS Trust Hospital, Sutton, UK – Europe’s largest bone marrow transplantation centre. He also got trained at Fred Hutchison’s Cancer Centre, Seattle, USA in BMT.
He was selected among 3 in the world for Young Medical Oncologist Fellowship offered by European Society of Medical Oncology to Institute Gustavo Rousse, Villejuif, Paris, France.
His areas of interest include chemotherapy and immunotherapy in haematological and non-haematological malignancies. He has performed autologous, allogeneic bone marrow / stem cell transplantation for various malignant / non-malignant disorders. With his experience during his PhD in pharmacogenomics in ovarian cancer, he is very well versed with Precision Molecular Oncology in various other cancers.
In the past, Dr Basade has worked as the Head of Department of Medical and Paediatric Oncology for Tata Memorial Centre Rural Cancer Project and Nargis Dutt Memorial Cancer Hospital, Barshi. He also established the bone marrow transplantation unit there. Apart from clinical work, Dr Basade has been associated with many research projects dealing with clinical trials of new drugs, phase II / III clinical studies in cancer research as Principal Investigator. Presently, he is pursuing Ph.D. in Pharmacogenomics in ovarian cancer.
Dr Basade is a recognized teacher for DNB Medical Oncology. He was representative for India region of European Society of Medical Oncology since 2009 till 2015. He is President -Elect of Indian Society of Medical and Paediatric Oncology. Dr Basade is also a Member of European Society of Medical Oncology and Life member of Paediatric Haematology – Oncology Chapter of Indian Association of Paediatricians.
He has numerous publications to his credit in The Lancet, various other international and National journals and books.
